The sustainable development goals

In September 2015, all members of the Organization of the United Nations agreed on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the 169 targets to be reached by 2030:
Most of the goals are important for the work of the members of the More and Better, particularly  goal 1: end poverty in all its form everywhere, and goal 2: end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture.

Civil society organizations engaged in the SDG process demanded a strong human rights based approach, clear financial commitments from the rich countries, and the implementation of  follow-up mechanisms. The SDGs are not perfect, but they provide us with the opportunity to put pressure on governments, raise debates and take initiatives for how these goals and targets can be reached.

In 2009, in cooperation with many of the member organizations and others, the More and Better developed the document Policies and actions to eradicate hunger and malnutrition; 284 organizations signed on it (see here). This document highlights several good policies and actions that are still valid and should be used in the follow-up of the SDGs.

More and better Network wants to engage in the following-up of the SDGs. Please, share your initiatives, proposals, inputs and viewpoints on the mailinglist and by sending information to secretariat@moreandbetter.org
