La Via Campesina: Strong call for food sovereignty and agroecology

Delegates from 70 countries ended the 6th International Conference of La Via Campesina with the adoption of a strong call for food sovereignty and agroecology. The Jakarta Call take up many issues linked to the development of our societies and economies, especially for peasants and rural populations such as: agrarian reforms, financial and environmental crisis, climate change, transnational companies, oppression of and violence against women, trade and WTO, the situation for youth, seeds and biodiversity, farmers rights. The call put food sovereignty and agroecology in the center for the struggle against hunger, malnutrition and  environmental damage; and for the struggle for justice, peace, equity and sustainable societies.
