Report on FAO Symposium on Agroecology

The International Symposium on Agroecology for Food Security and Nutrition held in Rome the 18 and 19 September was the first FAO event on agroecology in history. It turned out very successful and can be seen as an important step forward for the support and promotion of agroecology. There were more than 300 participants from governments, farmers’ organizations, social movements, NGOs and key scientists working on agroecology. La Via Campesina and other representatives from civil society plaid a very important role during the two-days event. We are pleased to share with you the report by Aksel Naerstad, international co-coordinator of the More and Better Network.

The report includes a summary from La Via Campesina, a summary from SCOLA, the FAO-document with abstract from the main speakers, and photos of most of the many posters displayed at the symposium.  More info from FAO about the symposium can also be found here.
