Follow up on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

The Open Ended Working Group (OEWG) in the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) on the Sustainable Development Goals had a meeting on January 27th to discuss input to the High Level Political Forum (HLPF) that will be held in New York, in July, with a focus on Goal 2: End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture. The working group on SDGs in the Civil Society Mechanism for CFS had a meeting to prepare as well. Both the CSOs-meetings and the OEWG discussed what the main messages should be. CSOs have criticized that the SDGs are not directly linked to the human rights, and especially not to the human right to adequate food. Despite this, CSOs strongly support the SDGs and are active on national and international level to propose policies and actions and to put pressure on governments and institutions to achieve the SDGs.

Countries are encouraged to “conduct regular and inclusive reviews of progress at the national and sub-national levels, which are country-led and country-driven”.
43 countries have committed to present such reviews for the HLPF in July; see the list here.

We encourage all organizations in More and Better Network to send reports on their work on the SDGs, inputs from civil society both on demands and processes linked to the SDGs, and we ask organizations in the 43 countries which will submit reports to the HLPF in 2017, to share their views on these reports.
