The international campaign MORE AND BETTER has been established to support and be a part of the fight to eradicate hunger and poverty. The campaign will advocate for increases to both the quantity and quality of assistance for agriculture, rural development and food as, an important part of eradicating extreme poverty and hunger. This goal links closely to the first Millennium Development Goal, which provides an important milestone for this campaign
The world has the resources and know-how to eliminate hunger and poverty. It is totally unacceptable that 30 000 people die of hunger each day, that 840 million people are severely hungry, and that 1,3 billion people live in extreme poverty.

Our shared goals: A world without hunger and povertyUnder the banner of MORE AND BETTER the campaign will lobby for vital changes in national and international policies geared towards:
• a substantial decrease in the number of hungry and undernourished people and people living in poverty
• a major increase in development aid for agriculture, rural development and food in the developing countries.
• significant improvements in the quality of aid for agriculture, rural development and food

MORE AND BETTER is an independent campaign comprising social movements, civil society and nongovernmental organizations from over 40 countries (by September 2004) and a core of unified national campaigns. The campaign is closely linked to the purposes of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nation’s International Alliance Against Hunger (IAAH) and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goal to reduce hunger and poverty. The MORE AND BETTER also recognises and co-operates with the International Planning Committee for Food Sovereignty which is established by social movements and nongovernmental organisations.

Participants have joined hands to mobilize political will to increase both the quantity and quality of aid for agricultural and rural development. This is the thread that binds the participants in a common cause.
The causes of hunger and poverty are complex and manifold. Each organisation and campaign focuses on those that it sees are the most important and will determine its own goals and priorities. But, we are all concerned by the decline of aid to agriculture and rural development and have agreed to join together to reverse this trend and improve the quality of this aid.

The organisations and campaigns in developing countries will play the major role in defining better aid. They will also work to increase the level and quality of support from their own governments and donors for agriculture and rural development.

Organizations and campaigns in the OECD/donor countries will lobby their own governments for MORE AND BETTER aid for agriculture and rural development, based on the overall goals of the campaign and the particular policies chosen at the national levels that best address these goals.

The international campaign will approach international institutions on issues of common concerns to the national campaigns, facilitate co-operation, exchanging of experiences and viewpoints.
