MORE AND BETTER invites local, national, regional and international organisations and networks to join the campaign.

The international campaign will seek:

- to increase the level and quality of development assistance directed towards food, agriculture and rural development to eradicate hunger and poverty

It should be noted the term quality refers to all those policies and practices required to ensure that this aid is used most effectively to reduce hunger and poverty.

The international campaign MORE AND BETTER is based on independent local, national, regional and international organisations and campaigns in the South and the North which agree on the purpose of the campaign (as written above).

MORE AND BETTER is an independent campaign comprising social movements, civil society and nongovernmental organizations from nearly 50 countries and a core of unified national campaigns. The campaign is closely linked to the purposes of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nation’s International Alliance Against Hunger (IAAH) and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goal to reduce hunger and poverty. The MORE AND BETTER also recognises and co-operates with the International Planning Committee for Food Sovereignty which is established by social movements and nongovernmental organisations.

The causes of hunger and poverty are complex and manifold. Each organisation and campaign focuses on those that it feels are the most important and will determine its own goals and priorities. But, we are all concerned by the decline of aid to agriculture and rural development and have agreed to join forces to reverse this trend and improve the quality of this aid.

The campaigns in developing countries will play the major role in researching and defining what is ‘better’ aid, and at the same time work to increase the level and quality of support from their own governments and donors for agriculture and rural development. The national campaigns in the OECD/donor countries will work to increase the level of development co-operation and aid for agriculture and rural development from the donor countries and at the same time improve its quality. The international campaign will approach international institutions on issues of common concern. to the national campaigns.

The campaign is closely linked to the purposes of FAO’s International Alliance against Hunger and the achievement of the UN’s Millennium Development Goal to reduce hunger and poverty. The MORE AND BETTER also recognise and co-operates with the International Planning Commitee for Food Sovereignty established at the CSO/NGO conference at the World Food Summit - five years later .

MORE AND BETTER has a small secretariat in Rome, hosted by Terra Nuova

The campaign has got economic support from FAO, IFAD, WFP, the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, The UK Food Group, Bread for the World (USA), Canadian Foodgrainsbank (Canada), The Norwegian Forum for Environment and Development (Norway) and the Development Fund (Norway). All organisations and networks which have the capacity to support economically, are asked to do so, with any amount.
